Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant

Reports To: Controller (Chief Financial Officer for now)

Job Title: Sr. Staff Accountant (General Accounting) - 1 Position

Position Summary (Shared)
We are seeking a Sr. Staff Accountant to perform a broad range of accounting responsibilities, including reconciliations, journal entries, audit preparation, and process documentation. Both roles will be cross-trained across all key accounting functions to ensure flexibility and coverage. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of the company by performing accounting functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting with regulatory reporting.

Shared Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries for accruals, payroll, and fixed assets
  • Reconcile AR and AP subledgers to the GL
  • Support PBC packages for audits
  • Document core processes and contribute to SOP development
  • Assist with monthly close activities and maintain GL integrity

Additional Special Focus - Fixed Asset Role

  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger
  • Record asset acquisitions, transfers, and disposals per capitalization policy and GAAP
  • Track construction-in-progress (CIP) and ensure timely capitalization
  • Calculate and post monthly depreciation and amortization
  • Conduct asset verifications and impairment reviews
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules and roll forwards for audit

Technical Skills (Shared)

  • Advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, formulas)
  • ERP proficiency (Sage preferred)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP
  • Utility accounting experience a plus

Qualifications (Shared)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4-6 years of accounting experience; for the Fixed Asset focus, at least 2 years of direct fixed asset accounting experience preferred
  • CPA or CPA-candidate a plus
